Commissioned by the Arts University Bournemouth, Drawing Studio is the first purpose-built studio for drawing to be constructed at a British art school during the last 100 years. Its Patron is David Hockney. It is used by every department and is a built statement of the continuing central role of drawing in all the creative arts.
The Innovation Studio was the second project completed by PT Projects with this Client.
The two buildings represent two completely different construction forms and methods.
The Drawing Studio structure, completed December 2015 was constructed off site in a shipyard, cut into segments for transportation and reconstructed on site. The precast plaster internal lining was formed using the shipyards computer drawings and dimensions.
The Innovation Studio, completed September 2021 is a more simple, conventional structure being a steel frame with Sto render external facade and plasterboard internal lining. The complexities of the project were with the confined site against adjoining buildings together with site levels; the ground floor level sitting some 2m below the level of the adjacent main road.

Our view
